Day 14 Cannock, a Hire Car and Fishing!!

This morning we had planned to go to Cannock to organise a hire car for the next two weeks, and while in Cannock we had our first experience in Aldi! What an amazing shop, why is this not in Western Australia?!!  We had a trolley full of food, including sausages, ham, 2x whole chickens, cheese, fruit & vegetables, milk, bread and of course chocolate, as well as lots of other items, and it cost £59 (just over $120)... Bargain!!!

It was then to the car hire place, however they didn't have a car available until 5pm, so on a whim we decided to try another place - Rising Brook Car and Truck Hire, and they had a Ford Galaxy, seven seater, ready to go!

The big girl, as she is now commonly known, is fantastic, heaps of room for us all, and smooth to drive (according to Grant - I still haven't attempted driving in the UK yet!) Grant managed fine following Katie home from Cannock to Penkridge, not venturing onto a Motorway yet!

Once home, it was a quick drop off of groceries, and then off to PC World and then Currys (I know a weird name for an electrical shop!) in Stafford, for Katie to buy a new laptop! I love electrical shops and Katie walked away with a lovely new HP!!

Home again to Penkridge, to finish the washing and to prepare the roast chicken dinner that Grant and I cooked for dinner.

It was a beautiful afternoon, a bit on the fresh side, but the boys and Lexie had planned a fishing trip to the canals (which was only metres away from home!).

Lexie headed off to Ian's tackle shop, down the road, to purchase the fresh maggots :/ while Grant helped the boys prepare the fishing gear. A couple of Jack & Lexie's friends tagged along (Tom & Corey), and off to the canal they headed. First cast and Jack nailed a small perch, unfortunately I wasn't down there with the camera in time to photograph the evidence, but they all tell me that he definitely caught one! Good job Jack!!! Not sure if it was me who scared the fish away, but they unfortunately never caught another fish, even though we saw several jumping out of the water! But it was a majestic feeling sitting down on the canal, throwing a line, listening to the birds and watching the ducks swimming on the water.

Home then for a lovely family evening, sitting around the table enjoying roast chicken and veges, ready for an early start for our trip to York.

Highlights

* Grant driving for the first time in the UK
* The confusion of the flickers and wipers being on the opposite side of the steering wheel!
* Grant refused to touch the maggots, so Lexie put the maggots on the hook, each time Grant wanted to cast!  Your such an awesome girl Lexie Loo!

Lots of love,

Chrissie xx
